The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ruled in favor of Ajit Pawar, a rebel nephew of senior politician Sharad Pawar, by granting him the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) name and the 'clock' symbol. Sharad Pawar and his daughter Supriya Sule have been dealt a setback in their efforts to revive their group before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The ruling also impacts the Congress-led I.N.D.I.A opposition bloc, of which Pawar is a key leader. Supriya Sule has stated that the ECI decision will be challenged in the Supreme Court, alleging outside influence in the ruling. The ECI conducted 10 hearings before issuing the order, which was signed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel.
