The Calcutta High Court has taken swift action in the case of a pregnant PG trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The court has ordered a CBI investigation, following multiple pleas including one from the victim's parents. In a scathing remark, the court also ordered the controversial principal of Calcutta National Medical College, who was appointed as head of RG Kar Medical College within hours of his resignation, to take a long leave. Filmmaker Aparna Sen has expressed her solidarity with the protesting medical students, urging the state government to ensure the safety of women in the state and hold the police accountable for initially dismissing the incident as a suicide.
