On Monday, Mumbai residents in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region faced difficulties, delays, and long queues as they participated in the fifth and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. As the state recorded a low voter turnout of 54.29%, citizens had to contend with various challenges such as missing names, confusion over address updates, and long commutes. In addition, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education announced the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC-Class 12) board results, with a pass percentage of 93.37%.
Amid hot weather and logistical issues, Mumbai saw a decrease in voting percentage for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, with only 52.27% turning out to vote. South Mumbai, in particular, recorded the lowest voter engagement, continuing a historical trend of struggle in this constituency. Despite challenges, prominent figures from Mumbai's social and entertainment spheres, such as Anil Ambani and Amitabh Bachchan, still exercised their democratic right. The decrease in voter turnout raises concerns about the city's civic participation.
