In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has allowed the bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia, who had been incarcerated for 17 months in relation to the liquor policy case. While the Court held that the trial court and High Court did not err in their judgment on the merits of the case, it stressed that they had ignored the aspect of delay in trial, which should have been considered as per previous judgments. The Court also noted that Sisodia, being a prominent figure in society, was not a flight risk and that most of the evidence in the case was already collected, making the possibility of tampering unlikely.
The Supreme Court granted bail to former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case, after 18 months of his arrest by the CBI. The court criticized the lower courts for not granting him bail earlier and stated that the right to a speedy trial was being violated. The court also reminded that bail should not be withheld as punishment for the accused.
