The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering bringing back an old rule that would allow players who have not played international cricket for at least five years to be put in the uncapped category. This rule would benefit the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to retain former captain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player for the IPL 2025 edition. While other franchise owners did not support this suggestion, the BCCI is considering bringing back the rule. If implemented, CSK could retain most of their experienced players such as Dhoni as an uncapped player for the next season.
