After Shivam Dube's impressive 45 off 24 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan advocated for his inclusion in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad. He praised Dube's ability to dominate spinners and also highlighted his proficiency against fast bowlers due to his Mumbai roots. Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden also echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Dube's potential in power-hitting friendly conditions in the Caribbean. Despite Dube's efforts, CSK suffered a defeat due to SRH's strong bowling performance and a blistering start from their openers.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has revealed his selection for the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, to be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA. Pathan believes that Rishabh Pant, who is recovering from a life-threatening accident, should be included in the squad along with KL Rahul and Jitesh Sharma. The batting unit will be led by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, while all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have also been included. Pathan also emphasizes the need for a "gun left-arm fast bowler" like Mohsin Khan, who may not have international experience but has shown great potential.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan was critical of MI captain Hardik Pandya's captaincy and performance in their first home game of the IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals. Despite Pandya's 34-run knock, MI could only muster a substandard score of 125/9 and eventually lost the match. Pathan was not happy with the set MI batters not going on to take their side to a bigger total and in a veiled dig at Pandya, said that once the batter is set, he should take the team through. Furthermore, Pandya's decision to start with Jasprit Bumrah and Kwena Maphaka instead of bowling the first over himself also came under criticism.
