The violations were apparently driven by a desire to silence critical voices and eliminate opposition efforts. The report was presented to the UN's Human Rights Council and identifies Ortega, his vice president Rosario Murillo, and other high-level officials as responsible for the violations.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar highlighted India's commitment to democratic principles and protection of human rights in his address to the 55th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. He called for collective efforts to address the ongoing situation in war-torn Gaza and reiterated that terrorism and hostage-taking are unacceptable. He also expressed full support and cooperation for the office of the High Commissioner and all mechanisms of the Council.
