The governments of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have announced their withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas). The three countries, which have been suspended from the bloc, cite Ecowas' failure to uphold its founding principles and its inability to help them address issues related to jihadist violence. Ecowas has called for the return of civilian rule in all three countries and has stated its commitment to finding a resolution to the current political situation.
