A powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Taiwan on Wednesday morning, causing buildings to collapse and widespread power outages in the capital city, Taipei. A major tsunami warning was also issued for southern Japan and the Philippines. Despite the destruction and chaos, the city appears to be returning to normal as rescue efforts are underway and the earthquake is believed to be the strongest to hit the island in 25 years. Japan's Self Defence Force is currently assessing the impact of the tsunami and preparing for potential evacuations.
