The centuries-old tradition of Dahi Handi celebrations, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, has predominantly been a male-dominated affair. However, in recent years, a new trend has emerged in various parts of Maharashtra, with all-women Govinda teams taking part in the festivities. This idea, initially met with skepticism, was spearheaded by social worker Bhau Korgaonkar and his wife, Shalaka, who sought to promote gender equality and challenge traditional gender norms. Despite facing mockery and criticism, these women have continued to participate and thrive in the traditionally male-dominated event.
