Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has announced plans to replace batteries and power plants in base tower stations (BTS) in Karnataka in order to address mobile network disruption issues during power outages. The company has already replaced 150 batteries out of 450 in Dakshina Kannada Telecom District (DKTD), with the remaining to be replaced within a year. In addition, 62 new BTS sites will have solar panels to charge batteries and 93 new sites will be added to cover 173 remote villages in the region.
